Media Structures have recently been involved in setting up for this year’s Trooping the Colour ceremony at the Horse Guards Parade, near St James’s Park. This year, the ceremony which takes place on Saturday 4th June is an extra special event as the Queen is celebrating her 90th birthday. Although Queen Elizabeth II was born on the 21st of April, it has been a long standing tradition to celebrate the Sovereign’s Birthday on a Saturday in June.

Working alongside our sister company, Austen Lewis, we set up temporary seating at the Horse Guards Parade. To provide comfort and ensure the safety of spectators of the event, we installed seating modules with plastic fold-down seating. This system also allows for fast installation and de-rig, as well as providing a tidy, uniform finish. In addition to installing practical seating solutions, Media Structures also provided camera platforms for the television coverage of Trooping the Colour. The towers provide excellent vantage points for camera teams, whilst not obstructing seated spectators or detracting from the historic event.

The seating layout for Trooping the Colour was originally designed a number of years ago and we have been honoured to work on the yearly event ever since. Before the 1990s, seating at the Horse Guards Parade comprised of standard tube and fitting structures, with wooden planks fixed into place to provide seating. Understanding that this was a problem, we devised a much safer and more comfortable solution that could be installed and taken down quickly and efficiently. Our plastic seating solution ensures that all spectators get an excellent view of the celebrations and are able to find and leave their seat safely.

It is a privilege for Media Structures and Austen Lewis to be involved in Trooping the Colour and this year is sure to be an especially momentous occasion as the Queen celebrates a very special birthday.
